I was going to hang it near my boxes but have decided to put it in my studio instead, to hang with very special treasures I've collected from artists I know and want around me when I wish to create something of my own. Please thank her for me and tell her that I will treasure it, and tell those who are allowed in my special place, the story - how she is married to you, just received her driver's license in San Diego, was trained in Kholuy, those little bits and pieces that make even an "email" person real. The weekend gave us the opportunity to have a close look at our recently shipped boxes... Blinov's (#991989) and Suloeva's (#770934) are wonderful... We expected this because of your accurate pictures but they are even more impressive in person! The tiny box by Zakharov (#991889) is an other matter... Breathtaking!!! It was the first time that we were in a position to handle a box created by this incredibly skilled artist... And it's an experience we wish to any lacquer box lover! Knowing the quality of your items, I've bid on everything I can possibly afford. I thought last time I emailed you I thought I was headed toward humorous boxes. Not so. The Fedoskino portraiture is so beautiful and I find those are the ones I pick up and look at over and over. At the other side of my spectrum, your Mystera boxes - the very simple ones, are also high on my list. You really must find more shadow boxes. Mine is FULL of items from Sunbirds, and my one glass shelve also overflows. Your new ones are certainly as good as the boxes I had collected years ago and I am so glad this quality is still achievable by today's artists. One of the special things you do that I appreciate is the information you send with each box. As an art quilter I found out long ago, the story of the art is 90% of its attraction, the piece without the story only gives 10% of what was involved. The process, the story, the heart of the work. I'm becoming too good a customer! And I like all of your boxes. The clown and some of the newer things intrigue me greatly. I'm moving that way. Everything I've received from your store has been excellent quality, exactly advertised as to condition and true or false. Many of the little false boxes I am picking up will go to great grand kids as treasure boxes (if I can part even with them.) Our community has much scientific travel between here and Russia. Hi, all! Just wanted to let you know how pleased I've been with my recent purchases. I'm especially thrilled with Kurilin's carved Alyonushka at Baba Yaga's hut and Shirokov Vasilisa the Beautiful casket. Kurilin infuses such a wonderful luminosity to what could be a dark composition...the owl's eyes literally shine out of the "tree hollow" with just the barest amount of light. The artist's details are incredibly minute, down to the cobwebs under the hut...I'm glad my vision's up to his work! The Shirokov casket has so much to look at that it's almost overwhelming, but the thing that startled me was the way the blue in the background glows. A word about Mstera Master Painter Piotr Ilyich Sosin: After receiving today from Russian Sunbirds my second large author box by Piotr Sosin, I wish to direct my fellow Collectors' attention to the works by this most inspired and accomplished artist. Sosin's painterly vocabulary seems to be without limits, as he excels in any subject matter, be it historical, folkloric, architectural or genre. Rarely does an artist demonstrate such consistency in masterful execution throughout such a wide range of pictorial topics. It is due to Sosin's work, that I am giving much more attention to the School of Mstera, than I ever did before, in my several years of collecting Russian Lacquer Art. I received your shipment of the three Tipyakova boxes and they arrived in perfect condition. They were even nicer than they appeared in the photographs online. I'm impressed by Tipyakova's mastery of light effects and water; her work reminds me of some of the Luminist painters of over a century ago. The composition and details are lovely, but it's the interaction of winter light on ice or fog, or spring sun through a brook, or moonlight against the clouds which brings it all to life, at least for me. ... Dear Sunbirds, Justt a quick note to let you know that I received the four boxes along with the very nice surprise of the calendars today. The three are lovely, and the fake...a terrific contrast and conversation piece. I think the Forest Spirit piece was twice to three times as lovely as its picture, which didn't capture its glow, either in the honey or the faint traces in the bear cub's fur. I realize the difference between the different qualities. I know the "Girl" is not museum quality, but the look captured on her face, to me, is magnificent. I like her almost as much as the "Girl by the Stove" (which I am still hoping to find in the same quality as the one you had that I waited too long to decide on and, thus, missed out.) However, I think you could find more interesting boxes from Fedoskino. Masha Wagner, for example, does interesting work and it is not expensive. Thanks for providing such a great service.
