Dmitriev Sergey Mikhailovich was born in the town of Yuzha, Ivanovo Region, in 1963. The artist completed the Kholuy Art School in 1984. (his teachers were Boris Kiseleov, Denisov N.N., Yolkin V.A. and Mityashin P.A.) His diploma work was a composition "Alexander Nevsky".

S.M. Dmitriev is a member of the Artists' Union of Russia. Sergey Mikhailovich began working at the Kholuy Craft Workshops in 1984. Participated in exhibitions since 1985. Major works: "Alexander Nevsky" (1985), "The Tale of the Sleeping Beauty" (1986), "Ilya of Murom" (1985), "Shrovetide" (1987), "The Snowmaiden" (1989).

The artist paints in the style of Kholuy lacquered miniature art, using tempera paints. His favorite themes to depict are fairy-tales, bylinas, landscapes and historical subjects. Sergey Mikhailovich supposes that the most important elements in his works are compositional structure, expressiveness of image and effect. Beginning to work, he intends to paint a miniature of highly artistic level. Finishes painting, when he is satisfied with his work. The artist applies in painting his personal artistic methods and likes to use green, ochre and red tones. Sergey Mikhailovich thinks that paintings of Renaissance had a great influence on his creative work.

In his free time the artist likes to take photographs. S.M. Dmitriev's works are exhibited in the Kholuy Art Museum, the Plyos State History, Architecture and Art Museum-Preserve, the State Russian Museum, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative, Applied and Folk Art.
