Printer PRINTABLE PROFILE

Sergey Borisovich Deviatkin was born in 1961 in the village of Kholuy located in the Ivanovskaya province, where he currently resides. In 1982 he finished the Kholuy Art School where he studied under such prominent artists as V.I. Fomin, A.N. Kosterin, and Fiskov.

At present Sergey Borisovich works at the Kholuy Factory as a chief painter.
His original works include:
"Falconry" (1984),
"Russian Winter" (1985),
"Merchant Kalashnikov" (1990),
"Mettle-some Amusement",
"Troika" (1988) and many others.

Deviatkin uses the traditional techniques of Kholuy miniature painting, including tempera paints. His favorite themes to depict are fairy-tales, lyrical poems and history. His works are notable for saturated golden filigree design, using a technique called plav. Beginning a new piece the artist always wants to express the chosen theme as thoroughly as he can and to be satisfied with his painting. If Sergey isn't satisfied with his drawing he wipes it out and recreates it. The artist uses a wide spectrum of colors. He thinks that each theme should be painted in its individual palette.

Deviatkin considers that his works stand out for fineness of lines, precise and lucid painting, interesting subjects and, certainly, for his detailed golden filigree. Besides, his compositions are always very vivid and dynamic. "Freedom" and "movement" are his favorite words.

In his spare time Deviatkin likes to play football, to drive his old Mitsubishi "Pajero" and to drink beer with his friends.
