Auction Rules

The Russian Sunbirds auction is designed to be as simple and straightforward as possible. The auction is a promotional feature that offers you the opportunity to purchase select pieces at a discounted rate, and allows us to highlight certain pieces or artists. All items presented are good quality. As with any item, we encourage you to read each item's full description to get as much information on the piece as possible before making a purchase. Auction items are returnable for credit only--full refunds will not be provided. You must contact Russian Sunbirds within 30 days of receipt of your order for any return.

Use the form on this page to register for the auction. You do not need a password--simply enter a unique user name and your Email address to begin bidding. Your Email address will not be visible to other bidders and will not be disseminated.

IMPORTANT: Your user name must be an alpha-numeric (letter and digit) combination. Please do not use non-letter characters such as the pound or dollar sign. Also, spaces will be ignored by the system. Your username and Email address are CASE SENSITIVE! For example, someuser is not the same as SOMEUSER, SoMeUsEr or someUSER. You must have cookies enabled on your computer for the auction to function. The system will remember you when you come back to the auction page (as long as you do not delete cookies--if you do, just login again).

Once you've registered, you are ready to begin bidding. Items on the auction are selected from our current online inventory. We initiate the bidding process with an amount based on the value of the piece. There are no automatic bids placed by the system to drive up the price of the piece. However, we do require a minimum bid increment, based on the value of the piece. The bid increment and next minimum bid amount are displayed for each item. Therefore, even if you input a lower amount, the system will input your bid as one increment above the previous high bid. The program automatically records and displays the highest bid. At the end of each auction day, a report showing the day's bidding history and current highest bid will be sent to you automatically.

Auction times are listed in 24-hour or "military time." This means that 18:00 is 6:00 pm. The times are fixed to Pacific Time. The time remaining is shown as a straight-forward countdown. However, you will need to convert the "auction ends" time from Pacific Time if you are in another time zone.

The auction process is extremely dynamic. Remember that others are viewing the pieces and bidding at the same time you are. Because of this, you will need to reload the auction pages often by clicking the "UPDATE PAGE" link to see the most current information. We have purposely written the auction program so that it will not automatically reload the pages (these "refresh" commands often overwhelm users' browsers and systems). So you must manually update the pages, especially during the final minutes of the auction when there is the most activity. We are interested in feedback from you as to when you would like to have auction times end.

The pieces up for auction are not taken out of the main catalog, and the auction for a particular piece ends if the item is purchased out-right (at full price) through the catalog prior to the end of the auction time, even if it is by a bidder. After the auction has ended, the item can still be purchased out-right until the high bidder claims the item. To claim an item, the high bidder can click the 'Claim Your Win' button on the auction lot's page.

NEW FEATURES OF THE SUNBIRDS AUCTION:

We have recently rewritten the auction based on feedback from our customers. Bidding has become much easier, more convenient, and more fair. Once the posted time of the auction expires, the system will show the item as 'going once'. Anyone still interested in bidding still has the opportunity to do so! If no bids are placed, the system will show 'going twice'; if no bids are placed after that, the auction will close and the high bidder can claim the item. However, if a bid is placed before that time, the auction time is extended to allow for additional bidding, so don't give up! When bidding stops, the system will again begin the 'going once' cycle, until no more bids are placed to extend the time.

This new feature makes the auction more lifelike, as bidding will go on as long as bids are still being placed. It also prevents 'snipers' from forcing a bid at the last second, and also prevents overlapping bids. If you place a bid for an amount that has just been placed by another bidder, the system will notify you of this, and ask if you wish to place a higher bid.

We hope you enjoy the new auction format and we welcome any feedback!
