Idalya Grigorievna Poletika was a daughter of the count Gr.A. Stroganov and the countess da Ega. She was married to the captain of cavalry regiment A.M. Poletika. There is a little information on this woman, but it is known that she hated Alexander Purshkin and participated in the intrigues against him, up until his death by duel. Contemporaries of Pushkin characterized her as a charming woman with big blue coquet eyes, who was not so much pretty as lively and clever.

In any century during any period of history I. G. Poletika would be considered extremely beautiful. She is a timeless beauty whose grace and elegance has the ability to cross generations and cultural boundaries. At first sight she immediately conjures up thoughts of Grace Kelly, Ingrid Bergman, and Sophia Loren, all who were world class beauties that had their primes earlier this century, but still find themselves in a class all their own.

Oil-based paint is the primary medium used to paint this portrait. The palette used to paint this composition contains white, brown, red, and gray paint. The manipulation of the paint, through shading and blending color, brings out a very life-like image on this paper-mache canvas. The detailing is exquisite, which is proven simply by looking at the fur wrap that is draped over her shoulders and her magnificent hairstyle. The composition fades off at the edges of the lid, which helps to intensify the young woman's likeness.

The box is constructed out of paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box and red lacquer to paint the interior. Aluminum paint is used to paint the scrollwork that frames the scene and wraps around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge located to the left of the portrait and rests on a carved out bottom. Upon completing this work the artist writes Fedoskino, the title, and her signature at the bottom of the portrait.

Materials: paper-mache, oil-based paint, aluminum paint, and lacquer.

About Artist Anonymous, : In the world of art some of the greatest paintings, sculptures, and literary works have not been signed by the artists, sculptors, or writers who completed them. These unsung people, having contributed to the world of art over the years, have chosen to stay anonymous for various reasons. Whatever reasons they may be these artists have shown there is more to the world art than gaining notoriety. The idea of creating art for art's sake is what draws artists to want to create beauty. When an artist creates something truly beautiful, no matter if it is signed or not, that ... read about Anonymous,
