I want a new life that's easy on me I want a new soul that I can set free I want some wings to soar through the sky I want a new shoulder to use when I cry I want what's best, though it might not be right I want to be strong, though not wanting to fight I want to be loved, but only if it's true I want a soft breeze to carry me to you. But getting these things is just too much to ask, And, achieving each one is too big of a task. So there's only one wish that I hope will come true: That someday I'll be together, together with you. -Sherry M. Winchell This beautiful piece of authentic Russian artistry was created by the talented Irina Butsinskaya of Fedoskino. Exceptional technique and masterful skill. This work is as entrancing as it is traditional. There is always something involved in a portrait. It could be the time of day, the clothing of the person composed or perhaps a particular season. That involved shapes the mood of the portrait. Here, it is the eyes. The gorgeous eyes composed with an ethereal elegance. An innocent longing for love. The artist has depicted this feeling with the application of oil-based paint. Compounds and minerals shaped and crafted into something breathtaking. The girl composed hopes beyond hope to be someday reunited with the love she left just a few years past. Years that seem like decades. The skin tone is vividly realistic. One can almost detect a blink in those eyes at first glance. A truly human composition. The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. A professional inlay of mother-of-pearl creates the angelic shine coming from within the powder blue bow worn upon the girl's dress. There is great texture throughout the piece. The curls of her hair and the ruffles in her dress are intensely vivid. Butsinskaya uses a unique blend of deep maple brown and mustard yellow oils in order to create the appearance of shadows behind the girl. Talent laden artistry. Butsinskaya is becoming more and more recognizable as a devout portrait composer. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer is used to complete the interior of the box. A thin rim of gold paint frames the lid's composition. The base is decorated with two parallel lines in gold, with the lower line being slightly thicker than the other. The edge of the lid and base are carved with the shape extending outward. Upon completion of the piece the artist writes their name, the village name of Fedoskino and the year of 2000 of which the piece was finished on the bottom of the composition. Materials: Oil-based paint, paper-mache, gold paint, mother-of-pearl and lacquer.
