This lovely portrait was special-ordered by a Sunbirds.com customer! Painted on an oval box by Fedoskino artist Shabalin, the composition was taken from a photograph sent in by the parents of this little girl. They then requested how the miniature be painted and on what kind of box. The result is fantastic!
Shabalin painted the background in a solid soft tone to keep the focus on the portrait. Then the painting seems to 'fade away' at the edges of the raised section of the lid, just like a vignette effect from a portrait studio. Shabalin's skill in creating texture and form a apparent both in the face and the clothing. Leaf and vine filigree frame the compostion on the lid, and adorn the sides of the box, which sits flat. The lid is hinged, and the artist has signed the composition. A wonderful treasure!
