The accurate depiction of these newlyweds is incredible. The detail springs out of the image as if it were taking place right in front of you.
On January 19th, 2001 Paul and Vera were married in the village of Kholuy, Russia. The celebration was enjoyed by all and lasted until the early morning hours. This box was painted especially for the newly married couple as a memento of the event that will live in their minds for the rest of their lives. It was commissioned for master Fedoskino artist Tatyana Frolova, who did an impeccable job creating a photo quality painting.
Oil-based paint is the main medium used to paint this composition. The palette used incorporates a wide array of colors that help actualize this image that the artist had on the photograph. The transparent quality of the bride’s veil shows the artist’s skill in making her paintings real. Not only does the veil look real it creates depth and flows naturally from the bride's head. The wedding dress and the bouquet have tremendous detail in them, and are painted with a steady hand that gives a soft texture to the fabric and flowers. The couple’s faces are painted to look relaxed, but express an elation that only newlyweds can experience.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior and red lacquer to paint the interior of the piece. For decoration the artist frames the scene with a gold line and wraps two gold lines around the sides of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom.
Materials: paper-mache, oil-based paint, gold paint, and lacquer.
