The entire village is out in the field for a great get together. The talented youth entertain the crowds. This unusual Palekh piece depicts the shepherd boy Lyel, playing a whimsical tune on a flute. The Snowmaiden notices the young lad and falls in love.
The primary medium used to paint this lacquer box is egg tempera. The scene is lavishly decorated and a rich array of color is used. This is quite unusual for Palekh pieces to you color in the background. However, the artist is the master and we're the audience. Microscope thin foliage designs frame the picture on the lid and decorate the sides of the box. Deep green lacquer is used to paint the outer shell of the box, while traditional red lacquer is used for the inside. Gold paint is used to highlight the details in the picture. The box is hinged to the top of the composition and has no legs. Materials: papier-mache, egg tempera paint, gold paint, lacquer. Item Specifications:
