The guests are on their way and one thing is left to set up. The samovar is taken out of the closet and is being whisked into the kitchen for all to see. In it coals will heat water to a scalding boil, which will bring all of the flavor out of the tea. A white kitten runs at the girl's legs as she carries the samovar. It looks like the finest samovar in Russia money can buy, which means it was made in Tula. Tula is famous for its style and quality of the samovars it produces. The entire city is dedicated to making them, and everyone seems to be connected to them in some form or another. When Tula began making them, the finest ones were being sold at around 250 rubles, whereas a person could buy an entire cow for a five-ruble gold piece. Even after the revolution Tula was still manufacturing its products. In the typical Russian household, even today, people will have samovars that they use for special occasions. There is something special about making tea in a samovar, then drinking it fresh out of a small saucer.

Oil-based paint is the main medium used to paint this composition. The palette is dark and warm to convey the sense of being indoors and in a celebratory mood. With the limited space the artist is able to work with, he makes sure he fills as much of it in with action as possible. Even the background is a tightly composed portion of the home. The wooden interior of the home shows that this takes place before the 1900's, or the scene is taking place in a village setting. The girl is well dressed, and her attire suggests she is having a party. A piece of mother-of-pearl is inlaid directly where her clothes are. The inlay is painted over in layers that give the dress detail, but allows the shell to fully shine through.

The box is made out of paper-mache made in Fedoskino. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box; clear lacquer is added in layers that are polished to a gleaming finish. A gold line frames the composition on the lid and an identical tartan pattern on each side of the box, completes the decoration left by the artist. The box has a hinge to the left of the scene and rests on a flat bottom. Upon completing the work on this piece the artist writes Fedoskino, 1996, and signs his name at the bottom of the composition.

Materials: paper-mache, oil-based paint, mother-of-pearl, gold, and lacquer.
