And then there are those times. The times when things just cannot be avoided. The knock at the door. The ring of the phone. The letter opened. Normal occurrences that vary like weather patterns. Clouds coat a previously sunny day. Wind interrupts the still. And then there is the meeting. The chance meeting. One unplanned. One unprepared for. A meeting like this can go in one of two directions. Success or failure. Sometimes there will be confusion. This sometimes seems to be a lot more than sometimes. But how do you describe the unknown possibility to someone? With a shrug of the shoulders?
He took this road with freedom in mind. The freedom of the day. And now? Trapped. His romantic intentions have been known through the good will of gossip. Now, they will be known from his very lips. This meeting will go in one of two directions.
This is a lovely Russian lacquer miniature. The colors and the details announce the piece as such. The decorative elements build the spotlight. And the artist's experience wraps the whole thing together. That artist, A. Korolyov from the village of Fedoskino.
This masterful example of intricacy was painted with oil-based paint. This is ideal for creating flow and detail. The water of the river gels to the landscape, where stand the characters, who almost appear to move right before one's eyes. And light sources or shadows are easily manipulated for the success of the painting. There is ample depth to this scene, as the horizon seems to stretch out forever. The clothing of the characters is very impressive. The folds appear to waver in the wind, bowing to the elements. There is also feeling in the moment. This body language is on the smallest of levels, but it contains the utmost energy. A chance encounter has been captured.
The box is constructed from paper-mache made in the village of Fedoskino. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while radiant red lacquer completes the interior of the piece. A hinge has been fastened to the top of the composition to be used for ease of opening. The traditional Fedoskino insignia can be found within the lid's interior as well.
The decorative ornamentation that surrounds this piece is as unique as it is striking. The lid's composition and all four base sides have been affixed with shimmering aluminum punch-outs shaped into various designs. The compositions framing is made up of minute rectangles and beads. For the base sides, frames in that form are created and then a star-like configuration is shaped within the framing. There is a delightful sparkle that twinkles in any light.
Upon completion of the piece the artist signs their name, the village name of Fedoskino and the year of 1996 of which the piece was finished along the bottom of the composition.
