Kukulieva Kaleriya Vasilyevna (1937 - ...)  Click to play

Kaleria Vasilievna Kukulieva was born in the village of Palekh on August 30, 1937. Merited Artist of the RSFSR (1974). Member of the Artists’ Union (1966). Awarded with the diploma of first printer Ivan Fedorov (1975); awarded the Big Gold Medal of the International exhibition of a book (1977) and the First Class Order of “Kirill and Mifodiy” (1978).

Studied at the Palekh Art School from 1952-1957 under D.N. Butorin, N.M. Zinoviyev, F.A. Kaurtsev, A.V. Kotukhin, V.A. Kovalev, M.I. Shemarov, and A.B. Borunov. Began exhibiting in 1958. The artist has been working at the Palekh Art Workshops since 1957.

Kukulieva was engaged in scenery painting, icon painting, wall painting, monumental panels and book design. Themes of her miniature works are folklore, literature, and landscapes. Her major works are “Russian Linen”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Sadko” “Seven Simeons”, and “The Snow Maiden”. Works by Kukulieva are exhibited in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the State Historical Museum, the Irkutsk Region Art Museum, the Art Fund of the Russian Federation, the Ivanovo Region Art Museum, and the State Russian Museum.
