Malakhov Nikolay Vasilyevich (1934 - ...)  Click to play

Nikolay Vasilievich Malakhov was born in 1934 in the town of Yuzha, Ivanovo Region. Now he resides in the village of Palekh, Ivanovo Region. In 1956 Nikolay Vasilievich finished the Palekh Art School. His teachers were Vakurov I.P., Kaurtsev F.A., Kotukhin A.V. and Shemarov M.I. The artist's graduation project was the composition "Stepan Razin".

Works by Malakhov N.V. are exhibited in the State Museum of Palekh Art, and in the museums of such towns as Moscow, St.-Petersburg and Ivanovo. His works also were acquired by collectors of the USA, Canada, and Europe.

At present Nikolay Vasilievich works at the Palekh Creative Workshops. He paints his compositions in the style of Palekh lacquered miniature, using tempera paints, and also gold and silver paints. Themes of his works are fairy-tales, bylinas, literature and songs. His favorite subjects to depict are fairy-tales and songs.

Malakhov N.V. is rewarded with medals for his participation in Moscow art exhibitions and also he has many honorary diplomas for his active participation in the development of Palekh Art.

The artist thinks that it is possible to create an interesting lacquered miniature of high quality only if an artist painstakingly fulfills his work. Beginning to paint a new miniature, he intends to reflect a chosen theme in his work as thoroughly as he can. He considers his work to be finished when a miniature is approved by the Art Council or an exhibition's commission.

Nikolay Vasilievich uses in painting warm as well as cold tones depending on a chosen theme. Quiet often he applies in work his personal painting techniques. Boxes painted by Malakhov N.V. are easily recognizable by bright individuality and uniqueness; and almost all of them are original authoring works.

Nikolay Vasilievich often visits the State Museum of Palekh Art where he can study painting techniques of old masters and contemporary artists. Works by Golikov I.I., Kotukhin A.V. and other founders of Palekh Art had a great influence on formation of his painting style.

Nikolay Vasilievich likes to spend his free time in the country and work in his garden. The artist wishes to all amateurs of the art of lacquered miniature the following: "Lets respect the art of lacquered miniature and try to study it in order to distinguish true masterpieces of Palekh Art from forgery!"
