Zaitsev Alexey Ivanovich

Was born in 1921 in the village of Pavlintsevo in Ivanovo region.

Alexey Ivanovich studied at the Palekh Art School (1937-1947) under prominent miniaturists V.T. Bondarenko and I.P. Vakurov.

Having finished his education Zaitsev was employed by the Palekh Art Workshops. The painter did monumental painting in the boarding school in Ivanovo, took part in the restoration of frescoes of Assumption Cathedral in the Kremlin. He also did theatre scenery painting, staging of the ballet "The Land of Miracles" by I.I. Shvarts in the State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet in 1968.

The artist is interesting in painting on the themes of folklore, literature, and history. The examples of art pieces by Alexey Ivanovich are miniatures "Kulikovo Field", "Mikula Selyaninovich", "Pugachiov", and "Ruslan and Ludmila".

These works and many others have been participants of various exhibitions since 1974. Collections of museums all over Russia reserve productions by Alexey Ivanovich, among them are the State Russian Museum, Zagorsk State Historic and Art Museum-Park, Central Museum of Armed Forces, State Museum of Palekh Art, State Museum of Ethnography of Peoples of Russia.
