Kotiagin Alexander Fiodorovich (1882 - 1943)  Click to play

Icon-painter. Restorer. Miniaturist. Pedagogue.

Born in Mstera in 1882 to the family of icon-painters. He attended the Mstera Icon-Painting School from 1893 until 1897. He worked in Icon painting studios in Mstera (1897-1903) and Moscow (1903-1915). In 1932 Kotiagin A.F. began teaching miniature painting techniques at the Mstera Vocational Art School.

Co-founder of the "Old Russian Painting Artel" (1923) and the "Proletarian Art" Artel (1931). Founder of the Mstera lacquered miniature painting school. Kotiagin A.F. participated in art exhibitions since 1933 and received the honor of being the gold medal winner of the Paris World's Fair in 1937. Member of the USSR Union of Artists since 1940.
